Vogue’s Film and TV Critic weighs in on Sunday’s ceremony.
The 90th annual Academy Awards are on Sunday, March 4, after which life without regular red carpets resumes, if you even remember it. This year’s crop of nominees include some major hits (Call Me by Your Name, Get Out, The Shape of Water, Ladybird) and a few misses (did anybody really love Darkest Hour?), some big stars, both old and new (Timothée!), as well as some total surprises (what happened to Jane?). But who will win? Who should win? And how much does it really matter, anyway? For all this and more, we’re kicking off a limited series of podcasts focused entirely on the Oscars. In its inaugural episode, Vogue’s Culture Editor Alessandra Codinha got Film and TV Critic John Powers on the line to walk us through his predictions for the evening, why award season is like a death march, and why he knows for a fact that Jennifer Lawrence’s dramatic fall in 2013 was anything but fake.
