The set of Lena Dunham’s Girls served as the backdrop for Celia Rowlson-Hall and Mia Lidofsky’s first encounter. Celia, a filmmaker and choreographer, and Mia, a director and showrunner, each made quite the impression on the other when they were both working on season three of the hit show back in 2013. The episode was called “Beach House,” and it was set on the North Fork of Long Island, New York, at the home of Mia’s then-boss (also the director of the episode) Jesse Peretz. Celia was choreographing the episode, and Mia was Jesse’s assistant at the time.
“I turned to Jesse while filming and said, ‘One day I want to marry a woman like that,’ ” Mia remembers. But they were both in other relationships at the time, so nothing happened right away.
