Bill Gates may be one of the richest men in the world. Sure, he may be a genius. And, to be fair, he may even relate to the Average Joe on some level, but you wouldn’t know it from his appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” this week.
When’s the last time you’ve been to the supermarket, Bill?
“A long time ago,” the Microsoft MSFT, +0.26% founder responded, to absolutely nobody’s surprise. Clearly, he wasn’t joking, which became even more evident as Ellen presented him with a challenge: Guess the price of three out of five popular grocery items within a dollar and the audience wins a prize.
Easy, right? Wrong.
He overestimated Rice-A-Roni by about 500%. Tide Pods for $4? Come on, Bill, try $19.97. By the end of the grueling exercise, he basically had to lean on the wisdom of the crowd and gentle nudges from Ellen to complete the task.
