Ear-tucked waves with rogue flyaways will serve the Versace woman best this season.
True to form, Versace put on a grand display tonight in the palatial Scalone Arengario above the Piazza Duomo. And while the Italian fashion house’s trademark va-va-voom was out in full force, with neon-bright plaid suits, thigh-grazing fringed minidresses, and graphic-print bodysuits, the beauty was a bit more understated for the Fall 2018 collection. Relatively speaking, of course.
In contrast to last season’s opulent flashes of gold, makeup artist Pat McGrathpared things back with glowing bare skin, groomed brows, and natural lips, while hairstylist Guido Palau riffed on the brand’s perpetual rebellious streak by bringing some edge to the classic blowout. “This is a modern Versace girl, but her roots are in rock ’n’ roll,” said Palau backstage.
While the naturally curly girls, like Imaan Hammam and Selena Forrest, sported their born-with-it texture, the majority of the models—who weren’t wearing one of the collection’s kaleidoscopic slanted caps or head scarves—had their lengths blown smooth with Redken’s Satinwear Blow Dry Lotion, then center-parted and lightly tonged.
